Dave Hartsock sent out this e-mail early yesterday morning...

"I received an email from Acronis this morning at 7am (EST) stating they had canceled their 80% special. I do not know if the offer was canceled at that time, or sometime prior.

I tried to get the newsletter out as soon as I could, however scheduling conflicts and mother nature (she never cooperates with me) forced a slight delay.

I apologize to anyone who had trouble while trying to purchase True Image! Hopefully other special offers will be made to us in the future.

Take care and thank you for your time,
Dave H
"

...and I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner to post an update here (...and on my other web sites...) to inform everyone that the deal ended yesterday morning as Dave did. I hope some of y'all were able to take advantage of this deal.

Well, the past two months have been a bit interesting for me and my wife, to say the least.

For those of you who don't know about my medical history, and may be interested, I have some information available About Me on my personal web site.

For those of you who may want the "short version"; I was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome in early 1994 and it was discovered at that time that I had an Aortic Root Aneurysm and a Bicuspid Aortic Valve. Those are the two things they "fixed" on July 7th when I was at St. Mary's Hospital. Some Marfs never need this operation, but I wasn't onna the lucky ones...Oh well.

As my cardiologist, Dr. Robert Henley, said recently, I "traded one set of problems for another." Because my aortic valve was replaced with a mechanical valve, I will now have to take an anti-coagulant (coumadin - blood thinner) for the rest of my life so that my blood won't "gum-up" that valve as it pumps through my heart...Oh well.

Anywho, it's taken me the better part of the past two months to physically heal and get past the pain (...and I'm not fully there yet...), but I am still having some issues with depression. Since I'm a chronic depressive to start with, this hasn't made things any easier. I found me a new PCP this past week and I really like her a lot. She's recced a psyhrink for me to go see and I'll hopefully see him within the next coupla weeks to see if we can't work on this "head" of mine. Dunno what he's gonna find, but we'll see if he can "fix" things up there. ;-)

Oh yeah, and I just found out that the hospital bills for this operation now total over $175k so far, and that's without adding the surgeons and everyone else involved into the mix. Yes, you read that correctly, over $175,000.00. I sure hope we don't run into some "stuff" with the insurance company over this. Wish me luck!

Now for some good news: Dave Hartsock, of Dave's Computer Tips, sent out a newsletter earlier today announcing a special deal on a copy of Acronis True Image 11. I asked and he gave me permission to spread the word about this special deal, so here's a partial quote from that announcement:

Since the August 1st issue of the newsletter We've been working very hard behind the scenes to improve Daves Computer Tips. The website has undergone a major overhaul! The site has a new modern look while maintaining a bit of familiarity! New look - familiar feel, what more can you ask for?

Well, I can't leave it at that! To encourage you to check out the site I have an exciting gift for everyone. One of my favorite sayings is, "You can never have enough backups!", and everyone knows I love Acronis True Image! True Image is regularly $49.99 and I know that prevents quite a few readers from using this great software. I've arranged a special deal, that almost everyone can afford. 80% OFF! That makes the final price only $9.99! This offer is only good for 7 days!

Point your browser to http://www.davescomputertips.com/picks-utility.php
The first product listed is Acronis True Image. Click the picture with the black background that says "Acronis True Image 11 Home" to start the purchase process.
1. A new page will open and you will see a green "Buy Now" button on the right.
2. Click that button to start the checkout process.
3. Check the box next to "Send Backup CD" if you want an actual CD in addition to the immediate download. This is NOT necessary and does cost $12.95. I wouldn't do it.
4. At the bottom of the grey area is a box labeled "Coupon Code".
5. Enter "ATIH80" without the quotes and click Apply to the right.
6. Notice the total price changes to $9.99! 80% discount!
7. Click the "Secure Checkout" button in the lower right.
8. Enter your payment details, finish the checkout process.
9. You will be emailed a download link and serial number to register the product. Keep this info in a safe place!

After you are done be sure to return to the site and have a look around! With this special offer there is no reason any Daves Computer Tips reader should be without a backup!

I have been using a freebie-version of Acronis True Image 7 for several months now, ever since XXClone trashed my computer, and I've been very happy with the way it works so far. Sorry I haven't been able to relate my recent "experience" with XXClone, but I will soon. If you'd like to see what kind of response I received from the XXClone creators, or not, here's a link to their Google Groups forum and my post and replies about the problems I was having with the freebie version at that time with a lack of response from the XXClone creators.

I just purchased a copy of Acronis True Image 11 at $9.99 for myself just to make sure the deal was for real...It is. Now go grab your own copy. Holler at me if you have any problems.

Hopefully I'll start updating the web site more often now that I'm finally starting to feel better physically, but no promises.

Thank you all deeply for all of the support you've been giving me these past two months.

Love Ya Lots!!

Bill

On July 1st I had chest pain and other symptoms that required an over-night stay in the hospital. On July 3rd I was admitted into the hospital after a coupla tests and on July 7th I had open heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm and defective aortic valve. I was finally released on July 14th to go home to recoup.

I knew this day was coming, I was just hoping it was further down the road. :-)

I have received several e-mails from folks asking for help or information about my web sites, but I haven't been able to reply to them directly because of the time in the hospital. It will take me a few more weeks to fully recoup, so please bear with me. I'm easily fatigued, short of breath, and still in pain and I can't sit at the computer for any real length of time...Typing this out is pushing my limits.

Added replies that I've recieved from both Continental and Wyndham Resorts and Hotels about our recent stay at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Newark, N.J.

05/06/2008

Finished my rant about the Howard Johnson Hotel in Newark, N.J. that I started last month.

I'm doing a little housecleaning and rearranging. I have moved visitor complaints about US Auto Parts to their own page, created a new one for visitor complaints about Verizon, added a complaint from Beatriz about Verizon, added a How-To File a Complaint page thanks to Beatriz, and added a Site Map.

02/08/2008

Matt just e-mailed me with his recent, and ongoing, experience with US Auto Parts and gave me permission to include his e-mail on my site.

01/18/2008

Moved all "What Was New in 2007?" entries to their own page.

Added a link to Northern Sparkles Jewelry & Design.
